The 2023/2024 EPL season has finally concluded, leaving football fans who participate in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) wondering how to fill the void.

With the excitement and strategic planning of FPL now behind them, many are seeking new ways to channel their passion and enthusiasm for football during the off-season.

The Fantasy Premier League is the largest fantasy football game of any domestic football league.

To begin with, the Fantasy Premier League is a great initiative, and achieving success in it starts with strategic team building.

It starts by immersing yourself in football knowledge and then defining your tactical approach. Assemble a balanced squad, blending star players with budget-friendly options.

Stay adaptable, making astute transfers throughout the season.

With resilience and determination, navigate the highs and lows of FPL management, aiming to conquer the leaderboard and etch your name in fantasy football history.

And then?

No…No…No! And then?

You’re just bored.

Why not just enjoy the beautiful game as it already is?

What is the difference between you and the person begging a team to score because he staked $10 against the bookies that such an event would happen?

Tell me!

Playing Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has too many downsides, and I wonder why we aren’t speaking about this loudly enough.

  1. It is time-consuming

Managing your team, researching players, and making transfers can take up much time, especially during the season.

Imagine a knowledge worker, a 9–5er, a master’s student, and a PhD student researching the best way to manage a FANTASY team.

Imagine adults doing a research on possible outcomes of a football events.

Allow me to shout!!!

2. Emotional investment

Your mood can be affected by the performance of your FPL team, leading to frustration or disappointment if things don’t go well.

Someone had a mood swing because a player got a red card in the 8th minute, and that mood swing could take a different form if before that red card, the player missed a penalty kick.

Someone would have passed out at this point. Lool!

3. Distraction

Focusing too much on FPL could distract you from other responsibilities or activities.

4. Addiction

Some people may become overly obsessed with FPL, spending excessive time and energy on it to the detriment of other aspects of their lives.

Some even forget their anniversary but remember to captain Haaland every week.

My advice? do drugs instead.

5. Unrealistic expectations

Success in FPL requires a good understanding of the game and luck, so it’s easy to become disheartened if the results don’t meet your expectations.

While the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) can be enjoyable and engaging for football enthusiasts, it also comes with its share of unhealthy demerits.

These include the potential for it to consume excessive time and emotional energy, serve as a distraction from other responsibilities, and even lead to addiction in some cases.

However, though still arguable, with mindful management and a balanced approach, players can mitigate these drawbacks and continue to enjoy the game responsibly. Like any hobby, the key lies in finding a healthy balance that enhances rather than detracts from overall well-being.
